Eye care deserves specialists, not generalists.
U Vision Group was built on a simple conviction: in a field that ranges from a child’s first eye exam to complex retinal microsurgery, no single clinic can be deep in everything. So we built something different — an integrated network where each brand is a true specialist, and every specialist is connected.
We walk alongside every patient through their unique journey at every stage of life.
At U Vision Group, the patient is at the centre of everything we do. Our integrated family of specialist clinics — each a true specialist in their field, all working in concert — is designed so that every patient who enters our ecosystem receives not just exceptional care for what brought them in, but the full benefit of every expertise we offer: vision, aesthetic, surgical, and beyond. Guided by our own research and the highest standards of evidence-based medicine.
UVG sponsors FORSEE Canada, an independent non-profit foundation advancing ocular health globally and locally through research, education, and outreach — including 240 cataract surgeries delivered in Kenya and hundreds of underserved patients treated at home.

U Vision Group began as a single comprehensive ophthalmology practice — Uptown Eye Specialists. As it grew, a pattern became clear. Patients with cataracts needed advanced laser options. People seeking freedom from glasses deserved laser vision correction offered as a focused, dedicated service. Patients told “nothing can be done” for their dry eye deserved a dedicated centre. Children needed care built around children, not adults. And the optometrists who referred to us needed surgical partners they could trust completely.
That recognition led to one strategic decision: integrate, don’t fragment. Rather than become a chain of identical clinics, we built a network of specialists — each with deep focus, all sharing records, all coordinating care around the patient. The result is U Vision Group: a family of brands that, together, form one of the most comprehensive eye care networks in the Greater Toronto Area.
The depth of a specialist. The breadth of a network.
Three commitments shape everything we do — and they are what make the integrated model work, for patients and for the clinicians who join us.
True specialist depth
Each brand goes deep in a single field — true specialists, not generalists expanding their scope. Together they span the full breadth of eye care, so every patient gets genuine expertise at each step of their journey — wide and deep, by design.
Integrated, continuous care
Records, imaging, and care plans move seamlessly across the network. Referrals are warm, follow-up has no gaps, and no patient ever has to start their journey over. The sum is greater than the parts.
Information over pressure
Born in our surgical counselling culture, every patient receives complete, balanced information — including OHIP-covered options — and makes their own decision. We guide and inform; we never push.
Surgeons first. Builders second.
Dr. Eric Tam and Dr. Sohel Somani met as co-residents and built U Vision Group around a shared obsession with efficiency, precision, and a clear view of where eye care was heading. Among the first in the province to adopt electronic medical records in ophthalmology, and early pioneers of digital and AI integration, they went on to establish the first purpose-built ophthalmic ambulatory surgery centre to be fully certified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). For patients, that same leadership and innovation translate into faster, safer, higher-quality surgical care — and they have made UVG a model that clinicians and administrators travel from across Canada to learn from.
A comprehensive, cataract and refractive surgeon, Dr. Tam is Division Head of Ophthalmology at William Osler Health System and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. He is known for mastering surgical and clinical efficiency — and for engineering the operational efficiency behind a smoother patient journey. An award-winning surgical teacher and recipient of the University of Toronto’s Silver Needle Award, he is a prolific contributor to research and surgical education.
A cataract and medical retina specialist, Dr. Somani is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and a prolific researcher — author of more than 40 peer-reviewed papers — with a current focus on Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) technology, and Lead Presenter of the multi-centre PRECISE Study. It was his founding vision that gave rise to FORSEE Canada, the independent charitable foundation built on three pillars — research, education, and outreach — which he continues to lead. A central figure in its overseas surgical missions, he has trained ophthalmologists in Kenya and beyond, widening access to sight-saving care for patients far beyond our walls.
Six specialists. One connected family.
Medical and surgical eye care, laser vision correction, dry eye, optometry and eyewear, accredited surgery, and clinician-curated products — six specialist brands working as one connected family.
Explore Our BrandsFORSEE Canada is an independent registered non-profit foundation we proudly helped found and continue to support. Through FORSEE, volunteer surgeons restore sight in underserved communities, scholarships launch emerging eye care leaders, and research advances eye health at home and around the world. Patients give back through donations; clinicians give back through volunteer expertise.
We don’t just follow the evidence — we help generate it.
Our surgeons and clinicians have published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers spanning cataract and ReLACS, retinal disease, glaucoma, and oculoplastics. As Canada’s highest-volume ReLACS centre, with thousands of our own cases studied and published, our surgical recommendations are grounded in our own outcomes data — not general guidelines alone.
Our innovation spans the operating room and beyond — from leading-edge work in Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) technology to artificial intelligence in eye care, including AI-guided post-operative cataract care and studies on AI interpreting clinical eye images, published in journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology and BMJ Open Ophthalmology. It’s all aimed squarely at better, more accessible care.
A teaching network
Our physicians hold active appointments across Ontario’s leading teaching hospitals and university medical faculties, keeping our clinicians at the forefront of innovation and the training of the next generation.
