U Vision Group was built by two practising ophthalmologists who still operate, still teach, and still see patients — because the people setting the standard should be the people held to it.
A cataract and refractive surgeon and a pioneer of laser-assisted cataract surgery in Canada, Dr. Tam co-founded U Vision Group on the conviction that patients deserve genuine specialist depth at every step. An early adopter of EMR and AI in clinical practice, he is a co-author of the group’s published work on AI in post-operative cataract care, and helped establish Canada’s first purpose-built ophthalmic ambulatory surgery centre fully certified by the CPSO — always with the patient’s experience as the measure of success.
A cataract and medical retina specialist and Associate Professor, Dr. Somani co-founded U Vision Group and leads its innovation agenda — including pioneering work with the Light Adjustable Lens and the group’s research engine. He is the founding force behind FORSEE Canada and its three pillars of research, education, and global outreach, carrying UVG’s standard of care to underserved patients at home and abroad — a belief that excellent eye care should reach everyone.

Primary eye care delivered by licensed optometrists — comprehensive exams from age six months, specialty contact lenses, dry eye management, and ongoing disease monitoring. When a finding moves beyond optometry, the same network coordinates the next step, so no patient ever starts over.
Our model is built on shared expertise, not duplicated staff. The same ophthalmologists who lead Uptown Eye also deliver laser vision correction at U Eye Laser Cosmetic, advanced dry eye care at U Dry Eye Institute, and surgery at our accredited U Surgical Centre — supported by a dedicated team of aestheticians, technicians, and care coordinators. For the patient, that means one team and one record, wherever their care takes them.
